Three encrypted postcards from San Francisco are discussed in an internet forum. The solutions still seem to be unknown. Can a reader of this blog help?

Encrypted postcards are a frequent topic in Klausis Krypto Kolumne. The postcards I introduce were usually written in the early 20th century, when postcards were the most popular means of communication over larger distances. Typically, encrypted postcards were written by young men to their sweethearts.

The encrypted postcards I am going to write about today are a little different. They were only sent in 2012. I found them on a Polish website. All of them were written by a Gynvael Coldwind in Mountain View, California. The picture sides show motives from San Francisco.

Here’s card number 1:

Postcard-San-Francisco-PL-1

Here’s card number 2:

Postcard-San-Francisco-PL-2

Here’s card number 3:

Postcard-San-Francisco-PL-3

Can a reader decrypt these postcards? Is the solution already known and published somewhere online?

Gynvael Coldwind seems to be a Polish hacker. His encrypted postcards are probably not meant for his sweetheart but as puzzles for his readers and followers. If you know more, please let me know.

THIS TIME I WILL USE ANOTHER LANGUAGE TO MAKE THIS CHALLENGE A LITTLE BIT HARDER BUT STILL SOLVABLE AND FUN

Die letzte Karte (also die mit #4 drauf) lautet:
THIS TIME I WILL USE ANOTHER LANGUAGE TO MAKE THIS CHALLENGE A LITTLE BIT HARDER BUT STILL SOLVABLE AND FUN.
Das spricht dafür, dass die ersten beiden auf Polnisch sind…

The solutions to the first two cards can be found in another thread of the same blog: https://www.uw-team.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9698
There is even a short video where the solver demonstrates his approach.

    Card 1:
The ciphertext is divided into words by the ␣ character. Reading every second letter of those words from behind gives the plaintext:

POZDROWIENIA Z DOLINY KRZEMOWEJ DLA SALVATIONA

    Card 2:
Substitution with the reversed alphabet: A<=>Z, B<=>Y, …:

POZDROWIENIA Z DOLINY KRZEMOWEJ I MILEJ NAUKI ANGIELSKIEGO

Card 3 is also a substitution, only this time the ciphertext is in english:

THIS TIME I WILL USE ANOTHER LANGUAGE TO MAKE THIS CHALLENGE A LITTLE BIT HARDER BUT STILL SOLVABLE AND FUN

Great work, especially on the Polish ones! 🙂

There was a second issue of this challenge:

I don’t think all of them were cracked – can you guys do it? 🙂

    Good luck!
