In the preview of the new Batman movie, a ciphertext can be seen. Can a reader solve it?
Let me start with a nice crypto puzzle blog reader Kerberos made me aware of. In order to see it, you need to go to the website RolandAndersen.se, click on “here” and enter the number 539. This will take you to a Buck Rogers comic strip from 1930.
The Buck Rogers cryptogram
In the first image of this Buck Rogers story, the following cryptogram is depicted:
Can you break this ciphertext? It’s not very difficult. If you can’t, you will find the solution in the last image of the strip.
The Batman cryptogram
Blog reader John Lamping has recently informed me about another cryptogram connected to an action heroe. As he told me, the trailer for the upcoming movie The Batman features a ciphertext. You can see it at 0:44:
Here’s a screenshot of the relevant scene:
Can you solve this one, too? It’s certainly more difficult than the aforementioned Buck Rogers cryptogram. Although the cipher used is probably a simple substitution, it might be tricky to solve it, as the ciphertext is quite short. Nevertheless, the solution has already been found and was published online.
I wonder whether cryptology plays a role in the plot of the new Batman movie. However, I’m afraid to find this out we need to wait until October 1, 2021, when the film is released.
