Newsome-excerpt

Das vollständige Kryptogramm gibt es hier.

Newsome schreibt dazu: “I have no earthly idea what that says, but based on the actual English on the other side of the page, at the time we were talking about dove hunting, rock bands and cars.  Number 4 on Tad’s car wish list was a Pinto.  The man always had taste.”

-.. beginnen. Allerdings hieße das ÜTDD, was keinen Sinn ergibt.

I did not get all the characters yet, but I believe it is a note talking about “love interests”: “Well I don’t like [TEM?] any more xxxx is sure she don’t like me I think I will cry. XXXXXXXXX don’t any XXXX is some ?eaZ?le I would like to date”.

I will work on the missing parts when I have a chance, but I must run now.

… the stars are sentence ends, and the large capped “I” like characters are word ends. Commas are letter separaters.

    Correction… it’s “… because I’m sure she don’t like me.”

Ok… this is all I have for now, “Well I don’t like [TEB?] any more because I’m sure she don’t like me I think I will cry. Tar?et don’t anybody but t?e?e is some teatle [? pet name?] I would like to date”.

I thought about this some more, and have some last ideas: I think the uppper part is from one boy to the other, in pencil it seems. He is telling the other one, “Well I don’t like [TEB?] any more because I’m sure she don’t like me[.] I think I will cry.”

Then, the lower portion, in ball point pen, is the answer from the friend, “Tar?et ? ro??res don’t anybody but there is some teatle I would like to date.” I think maybe this second writer was no so familiar with the code, and made mistakes (I know, it sounds like I’m making excuses for myself!). But you may note that on the right side, of the fourth line from the bottom, there is a little curved arrow… as though he wanted to insert some text from the next line, because he forgot it.

So until the orignal blogger weighs in, or someone else can figure out why a girl was a “teatle”, I can’t say if it is a mistake on my part, or the boy’s, or if it means something I cannot fathom. But he would like to date this one, no doubt. Wonder if he ever did?

Here a chart of the characters, FYI:

Nice work Rich! I think you bagged this one. What do you think about the second boy writing as follows:

“Target g ˄ roebersi (a girl’s name with a spelling he is not that clear about) realy don’t anybody but there is some teatle I would like to date.”

There is some slang or “urban dictionary” listing “teatle” as a love interest. So in this theory, boy one is talking about a “lost” love interest and number two suggests an alternative to zero in on, the Roebersi girl, who appears rather popular/attractive and he would not mind dating himself. Just a thought.

What about this reading of the second boy’s writing:

Target G. Rogers. I realy don’t anybody but there is some people I would like to date.”

The code for “p” can easily be guessed using Richard’s chart and is similar to “t”. Then, writing “a” instead of “o” could maybe just be a misspelling?

Kent, Norbert: Those both sound good to me. And Kent’s “teatle” find seems to clear that one up. Cool.

I noted that the original blog was closed for comments. I wonder if the last questions might be cleared up by Kent Newsome?

    @Rich, Kent, Norbert
Thank you very much for breaking this code. One more mystery that was solved by my readers.
