Documentary series “Cracking the Code” is now running on German television
It happened faster than I expected: The eight-part British TV documentary “Cracking the Code” is now running on German TV. I have a few appearances in it.
As reported six weeks ago, last year I had the (unfortunately not entirely unclouded thanks to Covid) pleasure of traveling to London to participate in a television shoot for the production company Blink Films. I gave interviews on the Zodiac killer, Enigma, Enchrochat, and a few other topics. Everything I said, I had to say twice – in German and English.
Cracking the Code
Ten months after filming, the time had come: The documentary series “Cracking the Code” started on the History Channel UK on August 15, 2022. The series is also available in the Curiosity Stream.
After the premiere on August 15, the seven further episodes followed in a weekly rhythm, each on a Monday at 10 p.m. British time. I was featured in episode 2 (Aug. 22, 2022) and episode 7 (Sept. 26, 2022).

You can subscribe to the Curiosity stream over the Internet for about $20 a year. I did that, but I can’t watch the series there. Apparently it is not available in Germany for legal reasons.
Now also on German television
Last Sunday evening, I happened to notice that “Cracking the Code” was just on German TV, on the channel WELT (formerly N24). I knew that a German version was planned for WELT, but was not informed about the timing. Shortly thereafter, blog reader Gerd Hechtfischer kindly informed me that “Cracking the Code” was now airing in Germany.
The following list gives the broadcast dates. For the episodes that have already been aired, I have linked to the media library, from which the programs are deleted after a few weeks.

So I’m featured in two of the eight episodes (number 2 and number 7). In addition to me, numerous other experts are shown giving their comments – including Sascha Auerbach, Simon Singh and Allison Bishop. In the episodes I’ve seen so far, I’m the only one speaking in German, while everyone else is translated. Unfortunately, the names of the experts are not shown in the German version. But I assume that my readers will recognize me anyway.
