Online and free of charge: The HistoCrypt 2021

In 11 days the HistoCrypt 2021 will take place. Due to Corona, the presentations will be held online this time. The participation is free of charge.

Deutsche Version

I have many fond memories of the HistoCrypt conference series. In 2012, there was the first forerunner of this event series, when a good 20 crypto enthusiasts met in Heusenstamm near Frankfurt. The star guest at that time was David Kahn. After two more conferences in Kassel, we met in Smolenice in 2017, in Uppsala (Sweden) in 2018 and in Mons (Belgium) in 2019.

I have created several videos on the occasion of HistoCrypt conferences. For example, the following was made in Mons in 2019:

After 2019, unfortunately, Corona came and made sure that the HistoCrypt 2020 had to be cancelled. It was also not possible to hold a presence event in 2021. But at least there will be a shortened online edition this year. It will take place on September 20, 2021. Participation is free of charge.

HistoCrypt 2021 is mainly organized by Dr. Carola Dahlke from the Deutsches Museum in Munich and Prof. Arno Wacker from the Universität der Bundeswehr in Munich. Many thanks to both of them!

The program

The program this time is short, but extremely interesting. Here is an overview:

The highlight will be a talk at 4 p.m. entitled “Solving the Zodiac Killer’s Cipher,” given by Dave Oranchak, Jarl Van Eycke and Sam Blake. As mentioned several times, solving the second Zodiac message after more than 50 years is the greatest non-military deciphering success in history.

Before the Zodiac lecture, there will be a workshop on the Codex Rohonci, a well-known encrypted book. It will be held by Levente Király and Gábor Tokai, about whose solution of the Codex I reported a few years ago. However, it is still not clear whether this solution is correct. The moderator of the workshop will be Benedek Láng.

Registration

More information about the HistoCrypt 2021 is available here. One can register with a mail to the address histocrypt2021@deutsches-museum.de. According to the website, the registration deadline was September 5. However, I checked again yesterday: As before, anyone can register, even shortly before the event. Since it is an online conference, there is no upper limit for participants.

Unfortunately, due to my job, I myself will only be able to join the conference later in the afternoon. Nevertheless, I would be happy to meet many of my readers there.

If you want to add a comment, you need to add it to the German version here.
